Strings for a CURE! Home

LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD STRINGS

For those of you who have been personally touched by breast cancer, let me introduce myself. My name is Elisa Guida, and I am a two-time breast cancer survivor, having been first diagnosed at the early age of 40. After my first bout, I designed a piece of jewelry for cancer survivors titled "a survivor's heart" ©. When I designed it, my goal was to give hope to survivors who have been touched by this crazy disease. A portion of the proceeds have been donated to breast-cancer-related organizations, such as breastcancer.org

My recurrence came in 2005, 10 years later. This brings me to my current vision. In September 2007, I was commissioned by one of my customers to make a guitar string bracelet . That led to me designing several guitar string bracelets and rings over the holiday season. You can see them on acustomjeweler.com

While at a Bon Jovi concert in Pittsburgh in March 2008, I had a vision to get 10 guitar strings from 10 famous rockers. I would then donate my time to make 10 guitar string bracelets. That's where the concept for StringsforaCURE.com was born. I would then have a fundraiser and donate the proceeds to breastcancer.org and the John Kanzius Foundation.

When I designed "a survivor's heart" © in 2000, it was a piece to give hope to survivors. Now it's time for a CURE. Too many people are affected every day by this disease, and we lose too many loved ones. It's almost accepted when a person is diagnosed with cancer. Now is the time to change the mind-set to a CURE for this devastating disease. This will be my attempt. I want this to be a one-time event, but who knows what can come of it.

I am picking breastcancer.org because I am originally from the Philadelphia area, and that is where Marisa Weiss, M.D., practices. Her vision to help breast cancer survivors started a long time ago, and she is one of my heroes. Her website helped me make major decisions when I faced my recurrence.

Why the John Kanzius Foundation? I am a longtime Erie resident and I have been following the progress that John has made in finding a CURE. I think he is on to something, and I want the trials to start as soon as possible.

Why Jon Bon Jovi? I have been a fan since I saw Bon Jovi perform in Erie, in the summer of 1987. He has helped many in the Philadelphia area, and I think if I can get him on board, many musicians will follow.

MY VISION IS TO GET A FEW GOOD STRINGS FROM A FEW GREAT MUSICIANS. LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
